The term of service will be
for 3 or 5 years, chosen by the owners. At that time, then the boat is
sold, and each owner receives a equal fraction of the "Pay-Off". This
boat should "Blue Book" Value around $60,000 to $80,000 sale price in
5 years. This would yield a return to each owner of between $6,000 to
$8,000. Your original investment. When you subtract this from your
original investment of $15,000, that means you've only paid $7,000 to
$9,000 !!
The monthly payments of
$300 each owner amount to $3,600 per year. Of this, "Running Cost"
, it can be wholly possible to have your accountant apply a "Accelerated
Depreciation" of this vessel, and if you may use this vessel for any
business activities, you may further deduct on your income tax. Since
you're living on it for more than 14 days, you may also claim it as your
second home, in the State of Florida that applies....(See your CPA). In
any case, you would have surely paid more than this for Boat Insurance
(the maximum policy we have is $4,000/year), and boat slip fees
($372/month). You would be taking the boat yourself for maintenance
If you were to purchase
this vessel yourself, you would undoubtedly pay a minimum of about
$25,0000 as a down payment. You will then be mortgaging the balance of
about $100,000 at no less than perhaps 7%, on 10 or 15 years or maybe 20
years mortgage. This could come to more than $900 a month. Then you
would have the dock slip fee, of about $300 per month, and the Insurance
cost that would average out to about $300 per month. This would bring
the total of your monthly payments to $1,500 a month.....minimum. You
would most likely at the end of 5 years be able if you are lucky ,...to
sell the boat for just about what the mortgage is owed, by then....thus
not realizing any return on your money at that time.
The total cost projected
over a 5 year period...maybe best case scenario.......is......$115,000
for 5 years of Boating.........
Now, tell me that you
really....really......feel that for the chance that you are going to use
this boat more than 28 days of the year....should warrant that you
should go and pay the extra $87,000 extra ....just to have that peace of
mind.........Hmmmm
